A closer look at Abyss Expedition
Abyss Expedition is a strategy roguelike for Android and iPhone. Each run, you draw equipment one item at a time from a loot board, choose whether to empty it or switch to a fresh one, then arrange and fuse the gear in your bag and fight dungeon bosses with companions and skills. It's free with ads and optional in-app purchases, including randomized items.
A loot board instead of a loot drop
In Abyss Expedition, loot doesn't simply drop. You work through a board of equipment one draw at a time, and the items still on it stay visible. That turns each pull into a choice. If the piece you want is still there, you can draw again. If only a few slots are left, you can empty the board, which earns supplies and an upgrade choice for the current expedition. If nothing left is worth having, you can switch to a fresh board, though the store page notes that switching has in-game costs and a new board isn't always better.
That's the most distinctive idea here. Because the board is finite, you can watch your chances of landing a piece change as you go, which makes the call to stop or keep going easier to reason about than a blind roll.
Building and fighting
Gear goes into your bag, where placement matters. You arrange pieces and fuse them to stack equipment effects, then bring companions and skills into dungeon runs against the bosses the game calls the kings of the Abyss. The developer's description says skills are timed by hand during runs, so the fights aren't fully automatic.
Price, platforms and data
The game is free on Google Play and the App Store, rated 13+ on the App Store, and supports English among ten listed languages. Ads and optional in-app purchases pay for it, and those purchases include randomized items. Account linking, cloud saves and rankings need an internet connection. The privacy policy covers sign-in with Google or Apple through Firebase, saved progress, rankings, ad rewards and purchases.
The developer says development is AI-assisted, including the artwork.
