Project Note

A closer look at BaldFade

BaldFade generates a preview of your own photo with a shaved head, a buzz cut or one of about fifty fade and taper styles. A single image is $4.99 with no account, and you aren't charged if the photo fails its review.

What it does

BaldFade takes one portrait and shows how you'd look with a very different haircut. The default is completely bald, but the style picker runs to roughly fifty cuts, from low, mid and high fades to drop fades with a beard, a French crop with a high skin fade and a mullet fade. You choose male or female, pick a style and get a high-resolution image without a watermark.

The upload needs a clear, front-facing photo with your full head in frame. There's a review step before you pay, and if the photo fails it you aren't charged. You can also send a photo from your phone by scanning a code.

Pricing

One image is $4.99 and needs no account. If you want to compare several looks, signing in with an email code lets you buy credits, 3 for $9.99, 5 for $14.99 or 10 for $24.99, and credit users can generate several styles at once. Tax may be added at checkout.

If you're mainly wondering how far a hairline has receded, start with the free Norwood test. It's a self-check against the standard hair loss scale, and the site says the photo never leaves your browser.

Photos and limits

The site is careful with its claims. It says a preview can't reveal the head shape beneath your hair or guarantee how a real haircut will turn out. On data, the privacy policy says photos are processed by a third-party image model, that originals and results are encrypted and available for 30 days from approval, and that a daily cleanup deletes them after that. It also notes that copies held by the model provider and backups fall outside that cleanup, and gives a support address for deletion requests.
