FootballLegends

Football Legends DB is a small, carefully sourced archive of famous players, coaches and clubs. It keeps statistics from different competitions apart and leaves gaps visible instead of filling them in.

A closer look at FootballLegends

An independent football history archive with profiles of 141 players, 38 coaches and 32 clubs, browsable by era, nation and playing role, plus a tool for comparing two players side by side.

A football archive that admits what it doesn't know

Football statistics get messy fast. Sources count club totals, international records and even assists in different ways, and it's easy to add up numbers that were never counted the same way. Football Legends DB refuses to. Its methodology page says incompatible scopes and overlapping competition records are never combined, and that the archive favours visible gaps over invented completeness.

That makes it smaller than a stats database, and the homepage shows how small: 141 players, 38 coaches, 32 clubs, 31 nations and 9 leagues. The featured names are the ones you'd expect, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Thierry Henry, Gianluigi Buffon, Pep Guardiola and Sir Alex Ferguson. Each profile pairs career dates and clubs with a short editorial description, like Ancelotti as an adaptive tournament manager.

Ways in besides a name

You don't need to know who you're looking for. The archive can be browsed by peak decade, by nation, or by playing role, with 20 roles that run from libero and regista to the modern inside forward. That role index is the most interesting part for a fan who wants to understand positions rather than look up a single player.

The comparison tool takes two players and lines up their career records, honours, peak eras and tactical roles. The link keeps both selections, so you can send it to whoever you're arguing with. The homepage's featured comparison pits the two Ronaldos against each other, framed as two elite forwards from different eras facing different football problems.

Sources and limits

The methodology page says official club and federation records are preferred for club and international totals, and that editorial interpretation, such as peak years, is kept apart from facts. Player photos list their photographer and license on an image credits page. The privacy notice says the archive doesn't intentionally set advertising cookies.

Two things aren't stated. The site doesn't name who runs it, and the methodology doesn't say how profiles are written or whether AI is involved. With a small archive and a strict publishing gate, expect the big names to be covered well and plenty of players to be missing.
