A closer look at IsThisRealAI
IsThisRealAI checks a JPEG, PNG or WebP image for signs of AI generation and face swapping. Each check returns an AI probability, a deepfake probability and one of four verdicts, naming the closest of 100 known generators when one stands out. Credits cost from $2.99 for 20, with no subscription. Images go to a US analysis provider that may keep them up to 14 days.
Four answers, including "can't tell"
AI image detectors tend to fail in one of two ways: they're overconfident, or they're vague. IsThisRealAI picks its thresholds and explains them. An image is likely AI-generated at an AI probability of 90% or more, likely a deepfake at a deepfake probability of 90% or more, and not likely AI only when the AI probability is 15% or less and the deepfake score is 50% or less. Everything in between is Uncertain.
The site defends that middle ground directly. Calling a real photo AI-generated can hurt the person who took it, so it would rather say it can't tell. Uncertain shows up more for screenshots, heavily compressed images and real photos with AI edits.
What the model looks at
The check doesn't read metadata or watermarks, which are easy to strip. A detection model examines the pixels for statistical traces that generators leave in texture, noise, edges and lighting, estimates how strongly the image shows them, and compares it against 100 generators it knows. A separate pass looks at faces for signs of swapping or alteration. Results usually take a few seconds.
The practical advice is to check the original file. Screenshots and re-saved copies lose the fine detail the model relies on, and the site says a not-likely verdict isn't proof an image hasn't been edited, since the model can miss some face swaps.
Price and where images go
There's no subscription. Credits come in packs of 20 for $2.99, 100 for $9.99 and 300 for $24.99, one per check, and a check that fails on the site's side returns its credit. Link, a Stripe company, handles payment as merchant of record.
The privacy details are worth reading before you upload anything personal. The policy says the site's own server holds an image only in memory and discards it once the analysis comes back. Its image-analysis provider, a US company, may keep submitted images for up to 14 days, may have its staff review them and may use them to improve its service. The policy also says payment records are kept for seven years under Hong Kong law.
