A closer look at MOV Compressor
MOV Compressor shrinks QuickTime MOV videos into MP4 files inside the browser, without uploading them. You choose a quality preset or type a target size in MB, optionally drop the resolution, and pick H.264 or H.265. It's free, needs no account, adds no watermark and handles batches one file at a time. HDR video isn't supported yet.
A size you can actually send
A few minutes of iPhone video can run to hundreds of megabytes, which is too big for most email attachments. MOV Compressor's most useful control is Target size. Instead of guessing at a quality setting, you type the size you need, say 20 MB for an email, and the compressor aims for it. If you'd rather not think in megabytes, the quality presets of High, Balanced and Low cover detail-first, sharing and smallest-file jobs.
Resolution is the other lever. You can keep the original frame size, or drop to 1080p, 720p or 480p to cut size further for clips that will be watched on a phone. Output is MP4 with H.264 or H.265.
Working on your own device
The compression runs in the browser rather than on a server. The site says nothing is uploaded, so there's no server size cap and no queue, and it reports compressing a 4.97 GB MOV recording in desktop Chrome. It runs in current Chrome, Edge and Safari on Windows, Mac, Android and iPhone, and it checks a file before encoding and warns you if your browser can't handle it. You need to keep the tab open while it works.
Limits worth knowing
Speed depends on your device, since your own processor does the encoding. Batches run one file at a time. HDR recordings aren't supported yet, which matters because recent iPhones can record HDR video. The site has no privacy policy page, and its privacy promise rests on the statement that processing stays local. It's free, with no account, no watermark and no daily limit.
