Project Note
A closer look at Ping123
Ping123 is a free browser toolkit for checking what your connection reveals. It shows your public IP with location, network and a risk score, runs DNS and WebRTC leak tests and a browser fingerprint check, and offers WHOIS, DNS and SSL lookups. It also checks whether your IP's region is supported by services such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and TikTok. Core tools need no account.
What a site can see about you
Open Ping123 and the first thing on screen is the IP your browser is using, with an estimated city, the network operator and its ASN, whether the address looks residential, and a risk score from 0 to 100. For someone on a VPN, that answers the first question at a glance: is traffic actually leaving through the tunnel?
The privacy tests go further. The DNS leak test checks which resolvers your lookups reach, the WebRTC test looks for addresses exposed through the browser's peer connections, a split-routing check shows whether some traffic takes a different path, and a fingerprint check reports browser signals that sites can use to recognize you. The time zone, language, WebRTC and fingerprint checks run in the browser.
Region checks and network tools
A separate set of checks reports whether your current IP falls in a region that ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and TikTok support. That's useful when a service refuses to load and you want to know whether location is the reason. The network tools cover WHOIS lookups, DNS records and SSL certificates, and there's a service status page and a mobile number lookup for numbers in China.
How it handles your data
The privacy policy is specific, which matters for a tool that sees your IP by design. Request headers, including the IP and User-Agent, are used to run checks and aren't written to a database. IP information is cached at Cloudflare for up to seven days, keyed only by IP. Only addresses that need a location lookup, such as WebRTC or DNS resolver IPs, are sent to the site's API, and those results aren't stored.
The leak tests do contact outside servers, and the policy lists them. The DNS test reaches Fastly, Surfshark, IPLeak, BrowserLeaks and bash.ws, the WebRTC test uses STUN servers from Google, Cloudflare, BlackBerry and Twilio, and the exit check contacts IPIP.net, ipify and Cloudflare. The core tools are free and need no account.
