A closer look at Song Slower
Song Slower is a free browser audio editor for practice and slowed or sped-up edits. It changes speed and pitch separately, adds reverb, loops a selected passage and exports MP3 or WAV, with presets for slowed + reverb, nightcore, lofi and practice. Files are processed locally with no account. Browser codec support and memory set the limits on what it can open.
Slowing a phrase down to learn it
The most practical part of Song Slower is its practice advice. To learn a passage by ear, it suggests turning pitch shifting off, setting reverb to zero and starting at about 80% speed, so the key still matches your instrument and the attack of each note stays clear. You mark the start and end of a short phrase and turn on Loop section. If it's still too hard, drop to 70%, and once you can play it evenly, raise the speed five points at a time.
The controls fit that routine. Speed and pitch are separate, so slowing a song doesn't drag it down a key unless you want it to. Times in the controls refer to the original song, which makes it easier to find the same phrase again.
Slowed + reverb and nightcore edits
The other half of the site is for making a new version of a track. One-click presets give a slowed + reverb, nightcore or lofi starting point, and you adjust speed, pitch and reverb from there. Listen to original switches back for comparison. Exports come as MP3 at 128, 192, 256 or 320 kbps, or as 16-bit PCM WAV, for the full track or just the section you selected. The site frames all of this as editing your own audio.
Local processing and its limits
Everything happens in the browser. The privacy policy says the site doesn't upload, store or receive your audio, and closing the tab releases it from memory. Cloudflare delivers the pages, and Google Analytics loads only if you allow it.
Working locally has trade-offs. Which formats open depends on your browser's codecs, long files are limited by available memory, and files top out at 200 MB. The tool doesn't generate music or isolate instruments, so it can't pull a bass line out of a mix. It can only slow the whole mix down.
