A closer look at The Switched Lunch

The Switched Lunch is a free short mystery from At Yours. Three friends picked up the wrong café lunches, and you open four clues and drag each lunch to a bag until everything fits. It's rated for ages 10 and up, saves progress in the browser, needs no account and offers three hints. It's the first case of Five Small Mysteries, a $3.99 set of five.

The case

The setup fits in two lines. Three friends order a falafel wrap, a tomato pasta and a garden salad from a café, and nobody gets the one they ordered. Your job is to rebuild who took which bag.

Four clues, opened one at a time, give you just enough to pin it down. One of them settles a single bag straight away, and from there it's a couple of minutes of elimination. It's a gentle puzzle, more warm-up than brain-burner, which fits the stated age of 10 and up and a spare five minutes.

How it plays

You match lunches to bags by dragging, tapping, or using Tab and Enter, so it works on a phone, a laptop or with a keyboard alone. A hint button gives up to three nudges, and once every bag is right the page explains why. Progress saves in the browser, there's a reset if you want a clean start, and nothing asks you to sign up.

Where it leads

This is the first of five cases in Five Small Mysteries, which At Yours sells for US$3.99 as a single payment with 365 days of online play and no auto-renewal. The paid set includes this case, so buying it adds four new ones, each estimated at 5 to 10 minutes. The other cases use the same format of four observations, one question, progressive hints and an explained solution, so this free one is a fair sample of the set. At Yours also offers a Plus subscription at US$4.99 a month or US$29 a year across its wider catalog of family and party games.
