A closer look at UntilFire

UntilFire helps people exploring financial independence estimate when work could become optional. Free FIRE calculators turn income, spending and savings into a projected timeline and let you explore scenarios without an account. Optional Pro features add unlimited bank sync and an AI FIRE adviser. Estimates are illustrative, not financial advice.

What it does

FIRE, short for financial independence, retire early, mostly comes down to one sum, which is how much you need invested before your spending can run on returns. UntilFire turns that into a date. You enter what you earn, spend and save, plus anything already invested, and it projects the year work could become optional. The homepage example lets you drag a monthly savings slider and watch the age change. That's the real point of the product. It answers which change brings the date closest, not just what your number is.

You don't need an account to start. The free calculators cover the 4% rule and FIRE number, Coast FIRE, savings rate, net worth by age, compound interest and APY. The FIRE number calculator uses cost data for more than 300 cities, which helps when the same lifestyle costs very different amounts in different places.

Free and Pro

The free plan goes well past a calculator. It includes a dashboard for cash flow, assets and liabilities, budget tracking, an investment portfolio simulator and one bank connection through Plaid. Pro costs $9 a month or $79 a year after a 30-day free trial, and adds unlimited bank connections and priority access to an AI FIRE adviser. Exporting your data is free on either plan.

Your financial data

Connecting a bank is optional, and the privacy policy, updated October 24, 2026, is specific about it. Plaid sends account names, balances, holdings and transactions for the accounts you choose, and UntilFire says it never sees or stores your bank username or password. The policy names its other services too, including Supabase for data, Vercel for hosting, Stripe and Apple for payments, PostHog for usage, Resend for email, and OpenRouter for a model that suggests transaction categories from the description and amount only. It doesn't separately describe how the AI adviser works. It says data isn't sold or used for advertising, and you can export as CSV or JSON or delete your account.

As with any projection like this, the date is only as good as the assumptions you give it. UntilFire says its estimates are illustrative and not financial advice.
