Read the full Project Note

Chinese Red Envelope lets you design a red envelope, the hongbao or ang bao used for Lunar New Year and other gifts of money, and print it at home. You pick a size, from the classic 9 × 17 cm down to a 6 × 9.5 cm mini that matches a Japanese pochi-bukuro, then a color, a pattern, a large character or name, one of several brush fonts and a greeting in English or Chinese. An optional seal marks the 2027 Year of the Goat. The PDF puts the whole envelope on one A4 or US Letter sheet, with solid cut lines and dashed fold lines. The PNG is just the decorated front, so it won't fold into an envelope. The page gives practical print advice, such as printing at 100% rather than fit to page, measuring the panel afterwards and testing your banknote size first. The site says the template is free to print for family, classroom or business use and that the brush fonts are openly licensed. Companion pages cover how much to give, New Year greetings and the Chinese zodiac.
