Project overview

The short version

Read the full Project Note

Chinese Paper Cut is a beginner's site for jianzhi, the Chinese folk art of cutting folded paper into symmetrical designs. It has free printable practice patterns in PDF and SVG, a how-to guide covering folding, cutting, printing and troubleshooting, and culture pages explaining motifs such as the plum blossom, fish, lotus, gourd and the Fu character. Its online studio lets you choose a reference pattern or a blank sheet, fold it, cut with tools like scissors, cutout, punch and zigzag, and unfold to see the full design. Work stays in the browser session, so you export a PNG or SVG before leaving. A paid printable collection is listed, but its checkout currently runs in test mode.
