A closer look at Chinese Knot DIY Designer
Chinese Knot DIY Designer is a free browser canvas for decorative Chinese knot artwork. Combine 18 knot elements and five tassel styles, change colors and sizes, add a greeting and download PNG, transparent PNG or SVG with no account. It plans the look only; the site's 3D tutorials teach the actual tying.
Planning the look before the cord
Chinese knots are usually built by stacking several knots on one cord and finishing with a tassel, and it's hard to picture the whole ornament before you've tied it. This designer handles that part. You pick a starting knot, then connect new pieces below the selection, up to 24 in total. The library has 18 elements with their Chinese names alongside, including the button knot, pipa knot and three-, four- and five-loop good-luck knots, plus five tassel styles. Every piece can take its own color and size, and you can keep them in a vertical line or drag them anywhere on the canvas.
The cords are drawn as vector curves, so the artwork stays sharp at any size. Canvases come in portrait, square and landscape, the paper can be one of four colors or transparent, and an optional hanging loop finishes the top. Undo, redo and arrow-key nudging make it comfortable to fiddle with.
Greetings and downloads
A greeting field takes up to 120 characters across four lines, in Chinese, English or your own language, with its own color and size. That makes the tool handy for Lunar New Year cards, wedding notes or a social post. Downloads come as PNG, transparent PNG or SVG with no account. In the SVG, the knot stays as vector paths and the greeting letters are embedded so they keep their look.
What it won't do
The site says plainly that a design preview isn't a tying diagram. It won't generate a full pattern or tell you how much cord to buy. If you want to make the knot for real, the rest of chineseknot.net has 3D lessons for eight knots, from the Wan Zi and snake knots to a two-return Pan Chang knot, where you can turn the finished knot, separate its layers and replay the tightening. The designer links each element to its lesson.
Your design and greeting stay in your browser. Google Analytics only runs if you allow it, and the site says there's no advertising tracking. The interface is available in English, Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
