A closer look at Fabula

Fabula makes short narrated explainer videos from a concept such as compound interest or the butterfly effect. It writes a fable, breaks it into an editable storyboard with visuals, camera moves, narration and subtitles, and renders AI scenes only when you choose. You set length, aspect ratio, language, style and audience. New accounts get 150 free credits.

Story first, definition second

Most AI video tools start from a prompt and hope the result explains something. Fabula starts from the explanation. You give it a concept, and it hides that idea inside a short fable before any formal definition appears. Only after the story lands does the video reveal the concept and map each part of the story to it.

The site's sample is the butterfly effect, told as a chain in which one acorn slips, trips a beaver, breaks a dam and floods a valley, while the sparrow who started it never notices. That's six scenes with voiceover and synced subtitles in about 33 seconds.

A storyboard you can direct

Before anything is rendered, you get a storyboard. Each scene has its visual, action, camera movement, narration, subtitle and generation prompt, and you can edit any of them. The settings go deep. Length runs from a 20-second hook to a 60-second deep dive, in vertical, wide or square formats, in six languages, with looks from animated storybook to hand-drawn explainer and tones from warm to darkly humorous.

Rendering keyframes and video scenes is a separate, optional step that spends credits, so you can get the script and structure right first. That's a sensible order for teachers, course creators and anyone making short educational clips, where the story matters more than the visuals.

Credits and data

New accounts get 150 free credits, which the site says is enough for one complete 30-second standard film. Paid plans are credit bundles, starting at $399 a year for 600 credits a month on yearly billing, with credits expiring monthly and watermark-free downloads. Higher-end video models use more credits.

The privacy policy, updated July 30, 2026, says prompts go to a content moderation service first and then to the selected AI generation provider. It also says the policy will be updated as Fabula adds real video providers and full video export, so those parts may still be in progress. The free credits are the way to find out how far the current version goes.
