Project Note

A closer look at Slingdrop

Slingdrop shares files and folders as browser links that recipients open without an account. They can pin comments to image areas, PDF pages or media timestamps and approve or request changes, and new versions go behind the same link. Free accounts get 2 GB; Pro is $6 a month. Developers can host assets on CDN links and connect AI agents over MCP.

Feedback on the file, not in the email thread

Most file links stop at delivery. Slingdrop is built around what happens after someone opens the link. A recipient can view the files in the browser, leave a comment on a specific spot, and click approve or request changes. Comments attach to the thing they're about: a region of an image, a page in a PDF, a timestamp in audio or video.

Versions sit behind one link. Upload a revised logo and the link the client already has shows the new one. Free accounts keep the last three versions, and paid plans keep the full history. For a freelancer sending rounds of design work or a musician sharing mixes, that settles the "which file is final?" question.

Sharing controls and what the plans cost

You can drop files without an account at all, but those links last 24 hours and cap at 250 MB. A free account keeps files until you delete them, with 2 GB of storage, 1 GB per drop and 100 GB of downloads a month. Links can carry a passcode, an expiry date or a list of email-verified recipients (up to five on the free plan). Vault drops are end-to-end encrypted, and the privacy policy says the company stores only ciphertext for them and can't read them.

Pro costs $6 a month or $72 a year and raises storage to 50 GB, with 15 GB per drop, page-level analytics and watermarks. Team is $25 a month for five seats with a branded workspace. Before you plan on paying, note that the pricing page says paid plans are currently bought in the iPhone or Android app, with web checkout still to come. There's also a one-off $2.99 Boost that sends a single 10 GB drop and keeps it for 14 days.

Hosting and AI agents

Two features are aimed at developers. A single command, npx slingdrop host followed by a folder, uploads it and returns stable CDN links for images, fonts and media. An MCP connection lets Claude, Cursor or ChatGPT post what they built to a Slingdrop link, where you comment and approve and the agent revises.

The AI features, such as summaries, transcripts and translation, run only when someone asks for them. According to the privacy policy and subprocessor list, those requests go through OpenRouter with data collection disabled, text features use DeepSeek's open-weight models on US or Dutch hosts rather than DeepSeek's own service, and uploaded files aren't used to train AI. Slingdrop is run by Sansavision, a division of Sansa Group AB in Gothenburg, Sweden, and its storage runs on Cloudflare.
