A closer look at WebDir.SI
WebDir.SI lists over 15,000 websites across 97 categories. Describe a task and Ask SI suggests matching sites, each with source-quoted facts on price and sign-up and a usefulness score. Free to use and free to get listed.
Searching by task
Browsing a directory usually means guessing the right category or keyword. WebDir.SI lets you type what you want done. The homepage suggests examples like "free image generator, no sign-up" and "transcribe podcasts", and an assistant called Ask SI matches that description to sites in its catalogue. A regular keyword search sits alongside it.
The catalogue held 15,613 sites across 97 categories in late October 2026, grouped under headings like AI tools, developer tools, design, productivity, finance and education. Listings range from AWS CloudFormation to a shared browser whiteboard, so this isn't only a list of indie AI apps.
How listings are built
When a site is submitted, SI reads its homepage and pricing page, writes a neutral summary and records facts such as price and sign-up requirements, each with a quote from the site. That quote is the useful part. You can see where a claim came from without opening the site.
Each listing also gets an SI Score out of 100. The method page says an AI model rates how useful the product looks for its intended task, based on its stated features and limits, and that this is an estimate with no hands-on testing. Website checks, like whether a privacy policy exists, are shown separately. Editors oversee the directory, review corrections and can give a listing a Human verified badge, so a listing starts as an AI draft that editors then check.
For site owners
Listing is free and, according to the site, always will be. There's no paid fast lane and no way to buy a better score. Owners can claim a listing with a meta tag, a text file or a DNS record, but claiming doesn't let them edit it directly. Corrections still go to an editor. Advertising exists as a separate option for extra reach.
The directory turns down parked domains, thin affiliate pages, link farms, adult content, gambling and personal blogs, and every listing links straight to the site.
