Project overview

The short version

Read the full Project Note

Device-Test is a free website for checking hardware from the browser. Its tests cover the microphone with a live level meter, the camera preview, speakers with a tone generator and left-right channel check, screen sharing, a solid-color display test for dead pixels and backlight bleed, and a keyboard map that marks each key as you press it. There are also tests for gamepads, MIDI controllers, touch, battery, location, gyroscope, light sensor, vibration and Bluetooth, plus click-speed and reaction-time labs. Each test asks for the browser permission it needs only when you start it. The site says live camera, microphone and sensor readings are processed locally, and it needs no account or install. Which tests work depends on your browser and device. The web version is free and supported by advertising, and native apps for iPhone, Android and Mac are listed, with Windows coming.
