Project overview
The short version
A chirp outside can be hard to trace to an insect you can actually see. Insect Sound ID accepts a recording in the browser, checks whether the signal is usable, and offers a paid suggestion of what might be calling. The site's own examples include a katydid labeled as a cricket at high confidence, so the explanation deserves as much attention as the name. For a hobby listener, that makes the result a starting point for comparison with reference calls. It isn't a confirmed species identification. The free check does not name an insect; full results require email sign-in and purchased credits.
