Project overview
The short version
OpenMathpix is an open-source Windows desktop app published on GitHub by the developer JhuoW. Press Ctrl+Shift+S, drag over a formula, and it returns LaTeX you can copy, along with Markdown, plain-text and image tabs. The default engine is the open Pix2Text MFR-1.5 model running on your CPU, so there's no account, API key, GPU or Python setup, and no automatic cloud fallback. For text, tables and mixed layouts you can connect your own PaddleOCR API from Baidu AI Studio or a self-hosted server. The repository describes it as an open-source alternative to Mathpix's Snip tool and doesn't state any relationship with Mathpix.
