CADProps

Receiving a CAD file doesn't always mean you have the software that created it. CADProps offers a browser-based place to inspect supported models, check their dimensions, and calculate properties such as volume and surface area. A product team reviewing a supplier's model could use that information to check the part's size and units before discussing the handoff.

The public site lists STEP, SolidWorks, NX, CATIA, and several mesh formats among its supported inputs. Viewing and measurement don't require an account. Conversion, saving files, and creating share links require sign-in. No model was uploaded for this note, so import quality and measurement accuracy haven't been tested.

CADProps distinguishes between solid geometry and a mesh made of triangles. That distinction matters more than the length of its format list. The site describes mesh measurements as approximate, while solid-volume calculations depend on valid geometry. A weight estimate also needs the material density you supply. An incorrect unit or density can make a precise-looking number misleading.

The useful role here is an initial inspection. Before using a result for an engineering decision, check the source file, units, and which parts the calculation includes.

CADProps processes files on its servers. Its privacy page says accepted guest and signed-in uploads also receive a separate retained original for support and conversion diagnosis. Those copies have no automatic expiry. Deleting a workspace file or a saved account file doesn't remove the retained original; removal requires contacting the operator.

For confidential designs, that distinction matters. A temporary workspace can disappear while the original remains on the server. Check whether your team permits that storage before uploading a supplier's model or an unreleased part.
