A closer look at Napless

A Mac menu-bar keep-awake app with timers, advertised activity watches and a visible reason for each hold. New installs get a seven-day trial before paid Pro.

Give the awake session an ending

A download that finishes after you step away needs a different duration from a one-hour meeting. Napless presents both timed sessions and watches tied to an activity. The idea is to release its keep-awake hold when that task ends, rather than leave a timer running longer than needed.

The menu shown on the site has presets, custom durations and an end-time option. It also advertises automatic triggers for downloads, calls, builds and coding agents. These are public descriptions of the controls; their detection and sleep behavior were not tested here.

See what is holding the Mac awake

The current release notes describe live menu rows with the active app or task and elapsed time. Check Health is intended to explain why the Mac slept despite a session. Those details could make an unexpected interruption easier to investigate than a switch that only says it is on.

Napless also advertises battery and heat limits. A keep-awake session is therefore subject to the configured stop conditions and the Mac's own state. The site still marks lid-closed support as coming in an update.

Check the trial and job limits

New installs currently start a seven-day trial, then need a paid Pro license. The site describes one payment for up to three Macs. Its release notes say people who installed before version 1.5 keep their existing free features. The app requires macOS 13 or later on Intel or Apple silicon.

Agent monitoring needs a closer check for unattended work. The homepage's agent demo includes a limit of 10 minutes after the last prompt even if work continues. Confirm the behavior for your particular tool before relying on it to hold a long run awake.
