A closer look at oldphotosai

A browser tool for repairing old photos, colorizing black-and-white images and enhancing clarity, with an original-versus-result comparison before download.

Start with a copy of the photograph

A scan of a faded family photograph is the kind of image oldphotosai is built around. The browser tool offers damage repair, colorization and enhancement, followed by a comparison with the original before downloading. For a face or a familiar place, compare the details closely. A clearer-looking result is only useful if you are comfortable with what changed. Project Radar inspected the public pages, without uploading or processing a photo.

The site accepts JPG, PNG and WEBP files up to 20 MB. It says choosing a file creates a local preview and leaves the original untouched. Processing is a separate step that sends a compressed copy off the device. The gallery is explicit that its examples use AI-created images with simulated damage or blur. Treat those as illustrations of the idea, not proof of restoration quality.

What the free allowance covers

The pricing page lists three standard restorations per day after sign-in and CAPTCHA verification. Those credits reset at midnight UTC, do not carry over and exclude colorization. Free output is limited to 1500 pixels on its longest side. A separate new-account trial is also advertised.

For larger output or colorization, the listed choices include a $5 pack for 50 photos and auto-renewing Pro plans at $12 monthly or $72 yearly. Both Pro plans refresh 200 photos each billing month without rollover. Packs expire after 365 days. These are the public terms checked on October 12, 2026.

Where the processed image goes

The privacy policy names APIMART as the photo-processing provider. It says oldphotosai keeps encrypted results in private account history for seven days and does not keep the original upload in that history. Results can be deleted sooner through the account.

That seven-day period does not cover every copy. The policy states that deleting account history does not delete downloaded files or copies held by APIMART, whose policy does not specify a fixed retention period for photos or outputs. For a sensitive family image, that distinction is worth resolving before processing it.
