Project overview

The short version

Read the full Project Note

ChessCafe is a desktop chess game that animates every capture: the attacking figure walks over, strikes and takes the square. You can play the computer at three strengths, pass the board to a friend at the same computer, or watch two engines play each other. It runs offline once installed and needs no account to play, though getapps.cafe asks you to sign in once to download it. It's free, and the page credits the core game to an open-source project used under the MIT licence.
