Project Note

A closer look at FrameThrower

A film-reference service for finding frames and organizing visual research.

What the product offers

The homepage describes searchable film frames, moodboards, and a lookbook organized around script scenes. Signed-in search, library coverage, and board sharing remain Not reviewed; no account was created.

The lookbook builder is the most specific feature. The homepage says you can drop in a script and get a board for every scene, built from real film frames, as a way to show a producer the look of a film before there is a previs budget. A separate moodboard builder handles looser collections, and the privacy policy mentions image search, where an uploaded picture is used to find similar frames.

Who it may suit

This may fit filmmakers and other visual researchers who want references tied to a scene or shared board. The footer describes the stills as reduced-resolution references and says rights remain with their owners. Finding a frame does not transfer permission to reuse it.

What caught my eye

Tying a reference to a scene is a more useful detail than a large library count. The site also documents REST and MCP entry points. No connector was created, and integration behavior, script handling, and usage rights remain Not reviewed.

Plans and limits

The free plan allows 10 searches a day, five full-size downloads a week, and one board and one lookbook. Pro costs $14 a month, or $7 a month billed annually, and adds unlimited searches and downloads, animation clips, GIFs and audio alongside stills, up to 30 boards and lookbooks, and API access. It starts with a five-day trial that charges on day six unless you cancel. Teams start at $35 per seat a month for three or more seats billed yearly, with shared boards and one invoice.

Rights and your data

The intended-use page is blunt about the library itself. It calls the stills copyrighted frames shared for inspiration, learning and commentary, says FrameThrower doesn't own them or grant a licence, and says it doesn't endorse using them as inputs for AI training or generation, or reselling them. It also says it doesn't indemnify users, so clearing any commercial reuse is up to you.

On personal data, the privacy policy, last updated June 22, 2026, lists account details, saved boards and notes, and uploaded images, which it runs through an AI vision model to make them searchable. It says FrameThrower doesn't sell data or run ads, and that it deletes an account and its data within 30 days of an emailed request.
