Project Note

A closer look at TokScript

TokScript is a transcript tool for short-form video. Paste a public TikTok, YouTube or Instagram link, check and edit the transcript against the video, and export subtitles as SRT, VTT or TXT. Videos up to five minutes are free with no signup; longer ones use one-time time packs.

What it does

TokScript is built for one job: getting the words out of a short video. You paste a public TikTok, YouTube or Instagram link and it produces a transcript with timestamps. It's meant to be checked, so you review the words against the video and correct anything it misheard before exporting SRT or VTT subtitles or a plain TXT file. Dedicated pages cover TikTok to text, TikTok to SRT, YouTube Shorts and general video to SRT.

The privacy policy explains how it works. A self-hosted service fetches the video's public metadata and any available captions, and when there are no usable captions it retrieves the audio and runs its own speech recognition. That means you're relying on the platforms' public pages, and pulling captions or audio this way can conflict with TikTok's, YouTube's or Instagram's terms. Check that you have the right to use the content you transcribe.

Pricing

Videos up to five minutes are free for everyone, with no signup and no daily quota, though only one task can run at a time and each network can start one new submission a minute. For longer videos, up to two hours each, you sign in and buy time once: $9 for 10 hours or $29 for 40 hours, valid for 365 days with no subscription or automatic renewal. Both packs have the same features.

What it keeps

Results don't last forever. Anonymous transcripts are available for 24 hours, signed-in free results for seven days, and paid transcripts for 30 days, so export what you need. Unsaved edits are kept in your browser for up to a day. The site uses a self-hosted Umami instance for analytics that excludes video links, transcript text and account details, and the policy notes that loading the example TikTok player connects your browser to TikTok.
