Project Note

A closer look at Book Cover Generator

Book Cover Generator turns a book's title, author name, genre and short summary into two contrasting AI cover concepts. You keep the one that fits, ask for changes in plain language and download ebook, KDP and square audiobook covers. It runs on one-time credit packs.

Starting from the story

Most AI image tools ask for a prompt. Book Cover Generator asks for the things an author already has: the title, the author name, a genre and a few sentences about the book. The genre list runs from romance and thriller through children's picture books, memoir, business and cookbooks, and there's an option to let it pick. From that brief it builds two cover concepts that differ in composition, visual style and title treatment, so the first choice you make is between directions rather than between near-identical variations.

The example on the homepage shows the idea. A thriller called The Last Lighthouse, about a keeper who receives distress calls from tomorrow, gets turned into story signals like isolation and a cinematic mood before any image appears. Genre samples include atmospheric photography for literary fiction, cut-paper illustration for a children's book and type-led layouts for business titles.

Refining and downloading

Once you've chosen a direction, edits are written requests. You can change the title, try a different typography treatment, switch the visual style or describe a single composition change, and the site says the chosen direction stays locked while you do. Title and artwork are treated as one design, which matters for covers that have to read as a thumbnail in a store listing. Finished work downloads as a front cover for ebooks and KDP and as a square audiobook cover. This is front covers only, so a print paperback with a spine and back cover still needs another step.

Credits and data

Pricing is one-time credit packs through Stripe, with no subscription. A free account gets 20 credits, enough to see one pair of directions. The Basic pack is 100 credits, about 10 cover generations, and the Pro pack is 500 credits, about 50, both shown at launch-sale prices, and the Basic pack lists commercial usage. The refund answer asks you to contact support within 14 days if a charge looks wrong or the credits haven't been used.

The privacy policy lists book details, prompts, chosen directions and refinements among the data it stores, keeps usage data for up to 24 months and names Cloudflare for hosting. It doesn't say which image model makes the covers or whether book details go to an outside AI provider, so keep anything you'd rather not share out of the summary.

Who it's for

It fits a self-publishing author who wants to see what their book could look like before paying a designer, or who needs a clearer brief to hand one. The site itself says it's best for early concepts and front covers, and that bespoke illustration and complex print production are still a designer's job.
