A closer look at Posnic
A point-of-sale system with a free local desktop edition and optional cloud services.
What the product offers
The public site describes sales, inventory, and reports on Windows, Mac, and Linux. It separates the local edition from optional browser access and cloud services, and links source and release information. Installation and cloud synchronization remain Not reviewed.
The current stable release is v1.9.0. The Windows installer is 208 MB for 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, with a portable single-file option, and macOS and Linux packages come from the same release. The local edition needs no account and has no trial timer. Its database is bundled, so there's no separate server to install, and the download page publishes SHA-256 checksums for every package. Version 1.8.0 added the option to connect to Posnic Cloud from a browser.
Who it may suit
The local edition may interest a shop that wants to run its own till computer. Hardware, tax setup, and recovery still need to match that shop. Payment handling, receipt hardware, tax configuration, and backup recovery remain Not reviewed.
What caught my eye
The public evidence excerpts distinguish a synthetic Windows sale from broader deployment claims. That is useful specificity: it identifies one demonstrated scenario. A sample sale does not establish readiness for a particular shop or show how returns and failures behave in daily use.
Cost, support and data
The Community Edition is free under the AGPL-3.0-only license, with support through the community. Cloud plans are priced by country and currency, and the pricing page loads them live instead of listing a fixed amount, so the number only becomes clear at checkout. Payment goes through Razorpay, Lemon Squeezy or PayPal depending on where you are. Posnic also sells hourly custom work, and it says it moves products, customers, suppliers, stock and balances across from Vyapar, myBillBook, Marg, Tally, GoFrugal or Excel at no charge. That list leans toward shops in India.
The privacy policy, last reviewed September 4, 2026, says the free desktop edition keeps shop records on the computer where it's installed unless you connect a service or export them. Website, cloud account and support data follow a separate path, and payment details go to the chosen payment provider. Posnic is published by Posnic Innovations Private Limited, incorporated in 2016.
