A hosted API for searching and mapping medical vocabularies such as SNOMED CT, ICD-10, LOINC and RxNorm, so OMOP and FHIR projects don't need their own vocabulary database.

Project Note

A closer look at OMOPHub

A managed API for OHDSI ATHENA medical vocabularies with concept search, cross-vocabulary mapping, FHIR resolution, SDKs and an MCP server.

The vocabulary layer, without the database

Anyone who has built an OMOP data pipeline knows the chore: download the ATHENA vocabulary bundle, load millions of rows into a database, and redo it every release. OMOPHub offers the same OHDSI standardized vocabularies through a managed API instead. It covers more than 120 vocabularies, including SNOMED CT, ICD-10, LOINC and RxNorm, with cross-vocabulary mappings and version management synced to official ATHENA releases.

The homepage shows the kind of question it answers. Find the standard SNOMED concept for acute kidney injury, check that ICD-10-CM code N17.9 maps to it, and work out that a serum creatinine result coded as LOINC 2160-0 belongs in the OMOP measurement table under concept 3016723.

Ways to call it

There are SDKs for Python, R and TypeScript, plus a FHIR terminology service and a FHIR-to-OMOP resolver for teams converting FHIR data. An MCP server exposes tools such as concept search and mapping to AI agents, which is useful if you want an assistant to look codes up instead of guessing them. A free concept lookup tool on the site lets you try a search before signing up.

Plans and limits

The free plan includes 3,000 calls a month on the current vocabulary release. Pro is $39 a month for 50,000 calls, four vocabulary releases, full semantic search and bulk operations. Scale at $79 and Business at $149 raise the limits and add longer logs, audit logs and priority support, and private cloud deployment is available on request.

The privacy policy describes the vocabulary data as reference terminology, not patient health information, and the API uses key authentication over HTTPS. Some vocabularies in ATHENA carry their own licensing terms, so check what applies to your use before relying on them in production.
