Project Note

A closer look at TypingGIF

TypingGIF is a browser tool for making typing animations, such as a typewriter line for a slide or a terminal prompt for a GitHub README. Free exports cover GIFs up to 1280 px and silent MP4s up to 1080p with no watermark or sign-up; $5 buys 20 credits for HD GIFs.

What it does

TypingGIF animates text as if someone is typing it. Type up to 280 characters into the box, choose a style and watch the live preview. Typewriter shows letters appearing with a thin caret, Terminal shows a command prompt in a monospace font with a block cursor, and Word by word reveals whole words for slides and social posts. You can set the frame to 16:9, square, 9:16 or a banner, adjust typing speed, pick from fonts such as Inter and JetBrains Mono, and choose colours. Options let the animation pause at commas and full stops, delete and retype the ending, and loop.

The obvious use is a GitHub README banner, and the site provides the Markdown line to paste next to the downloaded file. Sister pages offer variations such as a birthday GIF with a name, a loading text GIF, a marquee, adding text to an existing GIF, a kinetic typography maker and an end-credits video maker.

What is free and what costs credits

Free exports have no watermark, need no account, and have no export limit. GIFs can be up to 1280 px on the longest side at 15 fps for up to 15 seconds, or about 10 seconds for a square, because of a pixel-frame budget. Silent MP4s go to 1080p at 30 fps for up to 60 seconds. Both free and paid exports can be used commercially without attribution.

A $5 credit pack gives 20 credits that never expire. One credit buys an HD GIF up to 1920 px, which is shorter, around 8 seconds for a wide frame, and two credits buy one AI-generated GIF.

Privacy

Rendering and encoding run in the browser, so for the typing and caption tools your text and files are never sent to a server. The AI GIF generator is the one exception: its prompt goes to KIE, which keeps the generated file for 14 days, and the site keeps only a hash of the prompt with the credit record. Signing in with Google or buying credits stores your email and order records.
