A closer look at Mp3toMidi
Mp3toMidi is a browser tool that detects the notes in an MP3, WAV or M4A recording and gives you a .mid file to edit in Ableton, Logic, FL Studio or similar. Three 30-second previews a day are free; longer conversions need a paid plan from $4.99 a month billed yearly.
What it does
Mp3toMidi takes a recording and tries to write down the notes. You drop in an MP3, WAV or M4A file, start the conversion, and the service analyses pitch, timing and note starts. When it finishes you can listen to a preview and download a .mid file, which opens in any major DAW, sampler or notation tool. Sister pages on the same site handle WAV files, AAC and FLAC through a general audio-to-MIDI page, and the reverse job of rendering MIDI to MP3.
The homepage is unusually frank about where it works. One clear part converts best: a dry vocal, a piano phrase, a guitar riff, a bass line or a synth lead. A full song with drums, effects and heavy mastering will come out as a rough sketch. Its preparation tips are practical, such as trimming silence and count-ins before uploading, and exporting without heavy reverb or limiting even if the mastered file sounds better.
Free previews and paid plans
Without paying, guests and free accounts can make three 30-second previews a day, with uploads up to 10 MB. That is enough to test whether a particular recording converts well.
Longer conversions use monthly credits. Basic is $9.99 a month, or $4.99 a month on a yearly plan, and includes 300 conversion minutes, files up to 15 minutes and 25 MB, and 30 days of history. Standard is $19.99 a month, or $8.99 a month yearly, with 750 minutes, files up to 20 minutes and 50 MB, a priority queue, 90 days of history, and two extras Basic lacks: a higher-quality transcription option and a Full Song beta for multi-instrument tracks.
Who it suits and what to expect
It suits producers and songwriters who hum or play an idea into a recording and want the notes in a piano roll, or cover creators working from an isolated part. Treat the output as a draft. The site itself says you will usually need to quantize timing, delete stray notes and adjust velocities.
AstraOcean Ltd runs the service and lists a London registered address. Its privacy policy says uploaded audio is processed and then deleted automatically rather than kept long-term, and that payments go through payment service providers.
