Project Note

A closer look at Zombie Hug

Zombie Hug turns two photos into a 15-second vertical video of the zombie hug format, for couples, friends, family or pets, with a choice of three scenes. One video costs $6.90 with a free remake within seven days, and packs cut the price to $3.49 a video. No account is needed.

What it does

Zombie Hug does one thing: it recreates a short-video format that spread on TikTok and Instagram Reels from late September 2026, sometimes called the zombie love story. One person has become a zombie. The other recognises the face, lowers a prop rifle and opens their arms, the zombie leaps into the hug, and the clip cuts in mid-air to a warm memory of the two of them.

You upload two photos, one of the person who turns and one of the person who still knows them, and you can swap which is which. Setups cover couples, friends, family, and a dog or cat that stays a pet. Three scenes are available: a ruined city street that cuts to a wheat field at sunset, a Halloween pumpkin patch, and a Día de Muertos alley that cuts to marigolds. The output is a 15-second vertical MP4 at 720p with sound and no watermark, sent by private email link, with no public gallery.

Price and remakes

There is no subscription. One video costs $6.90, a three-pack $12.90 and a ten-pack $34.90, and pack credits don't expire. Each video includes one free remake within seven days for any reason, and the site says the video is refunded if the remake still mixes up faces or leaves someone out. You pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Link or PayPal using only an email address. Before uploading you confirm you have the right to use the photos and that everyone in them is 18 or older.

What happens to your photos

The privacy policy is specific. Kie generates the videos using ByteDance's Seedance model, and SeeAPI acts as a backup generator and runs an automated content check, so ByteDance's cloud can process your photos. Photos are deleted seven days after upload if you don't pay, or seven days after delivery if you do, and videos after 30 days. The site says photos and videos are not used to train models and are not sold. Analytics include Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, which start only after consent in the EU, UK and Switzerland, plus a cookie-based visitor counter. The policy names the site rather than a company as the party responsible for your data.
