A closer look at GadgetSteal
GadgetSteal tracks prices on about 1,300 home gadgets and appliances, mostly sold on Amazon, and lists current discounts with buying guides and comparisons. It earns a commission when you buy through some of its links.
What it does
GadgetSteal is a price tracker with a shop-style front end. It checks retailer prices on about 1,300 home products and records each check. When a price falls below the retailer's list price, the product shows up as a deal with the list price beside it. When we visited, the header showed a price check from that same day and counted 28 price drops in the previous seven days.
Products are sorted into departments, such as coffee makers by brew style, robot and stick vacuums, air purifiers and heaters, Echo speakers, Ring cameras, Fire TV and Kindle devices, plus pet tech, baby gear and desk setup. Each listing shows the current price, the list price, the review score and the date it was checked, with a button to the retailer. A guides section adds budget roundups and head-to-head pages, such as the best video doorbell under $100.
How it makes money
GadgetSteal is an affiliate site. The FAQ says some links are affiliate links and that it may earn a small commission when you buy, at no extra cost to you. It does not take payment or ship anything. You check out on the retailer's site, usually Amazon. On how it chooses, the site says it compares products on price and on what the retailer listings say. That is a fair description. These are curated picks from listings and buyer reviews, not products someone has tested at home.
What to keep in mind
Look at the list price before you trust the percentage. Discounts are measured against the retailer's RRP, and some list prices are well above what the product normally sells for. A robot vacuum shown at 73% off a $399.99 list price is the kind of deal to compare against the usual selling price elsewhere. The site itself says prices change constantly and the retailer page always has the final price. The privacy policy is a general template that does not name the operator. For a quick scan of current home-gadget discounts it works, as long as you read the numbers with some skepticism.
