Project Note

A closer look at Money Printer

A Mac menu bar pay tracker that shows earnings add up live from an hourly rate or salary, with local-only data.

This owner-authored note reflects the maker's published product context.

Watching the meter run

Money Printer answers a small question you might ask during a long meeting: what is this hour actually paying me? Enter an hourly rate or a salary and start a session, and the menu bar shows earnings climbing in real time. It keeps separate totals for the current session, the day and the paycheck, so you can see the number grow without opening a spreadsheet.

It's a novelty in one sense and a motivation tool in another. Seeing a figure move can make a slow afternoon feel more concrete, and the session totals give freelancers or hourly workers a quick read on what a block of time was worth.

Mac only, with a short trial

Money Printer runs only on the Mac and needs macOS 14 or later. It's a free download from the Mac App Store, with every feature available for three days. After that, a one-time $3.99 in-app purchase unlocks it permanently. There's no subscription.

What stays on your Mac

The privacy policy is short and specific. There's no account, advertising, cross-app tracking or analytics. Pay details, job names, schedules, goals and session history are stored locally, and trial and license state sit in the macOS Keychain. Optional idle reminders use only macOS's time-since-last-input value. One thing to know: removing the app doesn't necessarily remove Keychain items or exported backups.
