Project Note

A closer look at MacNativeGames

MacNativeGames is a free, independent guide to native games on Apple silicon Macs. It compares official Mac releases, community source ports, static recompilations and local Switch-native builders, with setup steps and two browser tools for Tears of the Kingdom.

What it does

MacNativeGames answers one question per game: can this run natively on an Apple silicon Mac, and how? The games page lists nine titles and tags each with a route. An official Mac port is something you buy, such as Resident Evil 4 on the Mac App Store. A community source port or a static recompilation is a native program rebuilt by a community project, where you supply your own ROM. A Switch-native builder is a script you run on your Mac that turns your own Switch game files into a Mac app, with graphics going through Metal.

Each entry lists the Mac requirement, the files you provide and a link to a longer guide. Two tools run in the browser. The build wizard assembles the exact build_app.py command for Tears of the Kingdom from the paths and options you enter, and the controller tool writes a controls.txt the game accepts. A projects page follows five newer community ports, including Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, with exact versions and the stage each has reached.

How careful it is

The site is precise about what it knows. It keeps game versions and source revisions separate, gives the date it last checked the upstream list, and labels play reports from project contributors as theirs, adding that it has not run those games itself. Where a profile only records a short headless test, it says that is not a full-game benchmark. The privacy page is specific too. Tool entries stay in page memory, and the page names the analytics and advertising services it uses, Google Analytics, PVUV.ai and Google AdSense.

What to keep in mind

The builder routes are not a download. For the Monster Hunter Rise builder you need your own base game, the matching update file and your console's prod.keys, and building needs macOS 26.6 or later with Xcode 27.1. Several community ports are marked early or work in progress, with features like online play turned off. The site is ad-supported. If you just want something that installs like a normal app, stick to the official Mac ports on the list.
