A closer look at We Used This
Searchable archive of 305 shut-down AI products, each with its operator, closure date and sources. Free, no account needed.
A record for each AI product that shut down
We Used This keeps a sourced record for AI products that have closed or announced a closure date. The home page counted 305 records on November 8, 2026. Each entry names the operator at shutdown, the category, the service-end date and the source for that date, and it's careful about what kind of date it is. The ROSS Intelligence record gives January 31, 2021 as the announced cutoff, says plainly that this isn't an independently observed last day of service, and links the founders' shutdown announcement it relied on.
The search page filters by company and by about 30 categories, including legal research, companions and clinical assistance, so you can look up a name you remember or see which tools in one field have gone away. The About page sets the bar for inclusion. A complete, named product or service has to close or set a specific closure date, and an acquisition, a retired feature or a regional exit doesn't count on its own.
Who gets something out of it
It's useful for anyone picking an AI tool for long-term work. A long list of closed products is a good prompt to check exports and a fallback before a team depends on a service. People who write about the AI industry get dated closures with the sources attached.
There's a memorial side too. Signed-in visitors can post short public memories of products they used, and the site has a map view and a set of chronicles. The terms say catalog entries can contain errors, and the map's city coordinates are approximate, so read a record as a well-sourced starting point and follow its links.
Cost, accounts and data
Browsing is free, with no account and no ads, and the product dataset is published in a public GitHub repository under CC BY 4.0. The Support page says one person researches and maintains the catalog. It offers a pay-what-you-want Supporter Bundle (minimum $3, suggested $5) with a PDF and JSON export, a certificate and wallpapers. No person or company is named as the operator.
Sign-in is optional and goes through Google or GitHub. You only need it to post memories or keep bookmarks. The privacy policy, updated November 8, 2026, says the site receives your account ID, name, email address and profile image, but not your provider password. Published memories and your account name are public. When someone creates an account, the email address and sign-in provider go to the operator as a notification through WXPush and WeChat. Google Analytics measures visits and feature use, and the policy doesn't name the payment provider that sells the Supporter Bundle.
