Project Note

A closer look at Gold Calc Tool

Gold Calc Tool estimates what scrap gold, jewelry or bullion is worth. Enter a weight in grams, ounces, troy ounces, kilograms or pennyweight, pick a karat from 8K to 24K and one of 18 currencies, and it shows melt value at the current spot price, with an optional dealer discount.

Melt value before you sell

Anyone selling gold to a local buyer runs into the same problem: the offer arrives as a single number with no explanation. GoldCalc gives you a baseline first. You enter the weight, the karat and your currency, and it applies the standard formula, weight times purity over 24 times the spot price, using a price it says it refreshes every 30 minutes. The page shows the per-gram price for 24K, 18K, 14K and 10K alongside the 24-hour change.

The dealer discount mode is the most practical part. Buyers don't pay full melt value, so you can switch on a 5%, 15% or 30% margin and see what a fair, typical or low offer might be. Knowing that 14K is 58.3% gold, or that a hallmark of 750 means 18K, also helps when a counter clerk names a figure.

The extra tools

The calculator handles grams, ounces, troy ounces, kilograms and pennyweight, 8K to 24K, and 18 currencies including USD, EUR, GBP, INR, JPY and BRL. Linked pages cover a cash-for-gold offer estimator, a scrap worksheet for adding up rings and chains before comparing offers, a melt value page, a hallmark lookup for stamps like 585, 750, 916 and 999, and a price hub by karat and weight. If a piece is stamped 925 or sterling, it points you to a silver calculator instead.

The guide below the calculator is worth a read before selling. It covers the difference between spot and bid prices, why a troy ounce isn't a regular ounce, and why local buyers usually run wider margins than online refiners.

Limits

The result is an estimate of metal value only, so it says nothing about a piece's craftsmanship, stones or collector value, and it depends on knowing your item's real weight and purity. The site is free, and its privacy policy says it collects no personal details unless you email, using Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity and Cloudflare.
