Project Note

A closer look at LeanFPS

LeanFPS is a Windows 10 and 11 game optimizer with per-game settings, an undo journal and local FPS session history.

A setting change needs a useful comparison

LeanFPS pairs Windows game settings with a record of how each gaming session ran. It uses Windows Event Tracing to count frames submitted by a detected game, saving averages and 1% lows locally. That gives a player something to compare after changing a preset. Different maps and graphics settings can change the result, though, so the history is not a controlled benchmark. The homepage's moving charts are explicitly simulations.

The measurement documentation also draws a useful boundary. Some OpenGL and Vulkan games aren't counted, and frame submission time is not the exact moment a frame appears on screen. Those limits matter more than a large example FPS number.

Know which changes stay

The publisher says LeanFPS saves previous Windows values before applying tweaks and reverses session changes when the game exits. Each tweak has an undo switch. A desktop power-plan change stays until disabled. The documented changes include process priority and background recording, while excluding Defender, Memory Integrity, the firewall and Windows Update. These are the publisher's descriptions, not an independent safety assessment.

The current download requires administrator rights and is not code-signed. No installer was run for this note, and neither performance gains nor rollback behavior were tested.

Free measurement and optional Pro

Measurement, game detection and five core tweaks are free. Pro adds more game-time and genre settings, with an advertised $19 introductory one-time price and $29 planned later. The privacy policy says the free app makes no network requests; Pro activation sends license and device information to the publisher and renews periodically.
