Project Note

A closer look at Matcha Remover

Matcha Remover reduces the green tint left by the popular matcha filter on photos and short videos. Pick a Natural, Gentle or Strong starting point, adjust the strength, and export a fresh copy. Processing happens on your device, with no account and no watermark.

What it does

The matcha filter gives photos and videos a soft green wash. Matcha Remover tries to walk that back. Open a photo or video, and the tool applies a colour correction you can tune. Three presets give a starting point: Natural combines a restrained green reduction with small changes to saturation, contrast and smoothing; Gentle does less; Strong suits heavily tinted material. A strength slider blends the correction with the original, from zero up to full, so you can compare familiar colours such as skin and white walls before committing. Fine-tune controls are there for more control, and you export a fresh copy.

It accepts JPG, PNG and WebP images up to 25 MB and MP4, MOV and WebM videos up to 200 MB, and photos save as lossless PNG or a smaller JPG.

What it can and can't do

The guidance is refreshingly realistic. The site says the tool reduces colour cast and texture but does not recreate lost detail, and the presets are fixed, editable settings rather than an automatic guess at what the image looked like before. It suggests starting from the file closest to the original edit, since a screenshot of a repost adds interface elements, resizing and extra compression. If the original editing project still exists, switching the effect off there gives the most faithful result. It also notes that the file limits don't guarantee every video codec or resolution will work on every device.

Privacy and price

Everything runs in the browser, so photos and videos stay on your device. It is free, needs no sign-up and adds no watermark. Guides on the site explain what the matcha filter is, how to remove it from video and how to fix a green tint in photos more generally.
