Project Note

A closer look at Random Food Generator

Random Food Generator suggests one food idea at a time, filtered by meal, cuisine or vegetarian and vegan preference, and avoids repeating recent picks. Food wheels and a free 3, 5 or 7-day dinner planner sit alongside it; Premium adds grocery lists for $29.99 a year.

What it does

The generator is built for the moment when every option sounds equally fine. You can leave every filter open for a surprise, or narrow it by meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack or dessert), by cuisine from a list of 13 including Korean, Middle Eastern and Vietnamese, and by vegetarian or vegan. Each click gives one idea, and it avoids repeating recent picks, so pressing it three or four times builds a short list. That list can be sent to the Food Wheel, where you spin once and accept the answer.

The Fast Food Wheel does the same for takeout. It starts with twelve big chains, food types, or a list you type yourself, and an optional Near Me mode asks for your location only when you press it. A separate dinner generator works from available time, an ingredient or a cuisine.

The weekly planner and Premium

The most practical tool is the Weekly Meal Planner. It drafts three, five or seven dinners, and you can lock the ones you like, replace the rest, then copy or print the plan. It is free, and a free account keeps up to three active plans across devices.

Random Food Premium costs $29.99 a year, with no free trial. It turns a plan into a grocery list from verified recipes, combines matching ingredients, scales amounts by the number of people, and keeps full plan history and reusable templates. The pricing page says it cannot invent quantities for meals without a verified recipe, so takeout nights and unmatched dishes are flagged rather than guessed.

Things to know

Recent picks, custom wheels and a guest meal plan stay in your browser's storage. Accounts store your email, name and saved plans. The privacy policy says Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity may run on public pages, and it does not name the company behind the site. Suggestions are only ideas, and the site says to check ingredients yourself if you have allergies or strict dietary needs.
