A closer look at PasosHoy
PasosHoy tracks the status of the 34 vehicle crossings between Argentina and Chile, refreshed every 15 minutes from Argentina's official data. Each pass shows who reported its status and when, and a pass with stale or conflicting data reads unconfirmed instead of open.
What it does
Checking whether you can drive into Chile usually means opening several pages: Argentina's official list of crossings, the Chilean border unit's notices, a weather forecast that is normally for the nearest city, and often a social media post. PasosHoy puts those into one table. It covers the 34 crossings you can drive, grouped by province from north to south, and refreshes the status every 15 minutes from Argentina's Ministry of Security, which mostly relays Gendarmería reports.
Each row gives the status, today's hours, and when the reporting agency last updated it, next to when PasosHoy last checked. Closure reasons appear in the agency's own words. When Cancillería publishes different hours, such as a winter closure or freight-only access, that note sits underneath instead of being merged into a single answer.
How it handles uncertain data
The most useful detail is on the methodology page. PasosHoy never shows a pass as open when it is unsure. A pass reads "Sin confirmar" (unconfirmed) when there has been no clear official update for two hours, when an open report is more than a day old without a road update from Vialidad Nacional, when Cancillería lists it as closed, when Vialidad reports the access road cut, or when the official hours say it should be shut at that time of day. The last official message stays visible beside it, so you can see why.
Pass pages for crossings such as Cristo Redentor, Jama and Pehuenche add a MET Norway forecast for the pass point and its altitude rather than the nearest town, and hide it once it is more than three hours old. They also list the last fuel stations on each side. Since October 23, 2026 the site has logged every status change, so you can look back at how often a pass has closed.
Who it suits and what to keep in mind
It suits anyone driving between Argentina and Chile who reads Spanish, whether that is a summer trip over Cristo Redentor or a winter crossing in Patagonia where passes close often. Guides cover required documents in both directions, the SAG sworn declaration, Chilean tolls, chains and what you can carry across.
PasosHoy is an independent project with no link to Gendarmería, Cancillería or Chile's border unit, and it says so. For the Chilean side it links to that unit's own website, X account and WhatsApp channel rather than showing a live feed. The site is free with no account. It shows Google AdSense ads, and some guides carry affiliate links, which the privacy page says are counted without storing IP addresses or setting cookies. Before leaving, it is still worth opening the official page each pass links to, which is what the site itself recommends.
