Project Note

A closer look at PHPRunner

PHPRunner generates a working PHP web app from your database, with data-entry pages, search, reports, charts, dashboards and user permissions, then lets you customise it visually or with code. It works with MySQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Access and more. Licences start at $599, with a 21-day trial.

What it does

PHPRunner is for the common job of putting a web front end on a database. Connect it to your data and it builds the structure of an application straight away: list pages, add and edit forms, record views, search, export and print, plus login, user registration and password recovery. You then shape it into the tool you need. The Page Designer moves fields and elements around with drag and drop, themes and custom CSS change the look, and master-detail links connect related tables, such as customers and their orders.

When the generated behaviour isn't enough, events let you run code at set points, for example after a record is added or before a page is shown, to handle validation, notifications or integrations. The product page says built-in AI assistance can help write that custom code while PHPRunner keeps the overall application structure in place. Reports, charts and dashboards come built in, and apps can be multilingual, with more than 30 interface languages.

Databases, deployment and editions

It works with MySQL, MariaDB, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Microsoft Access, IBM DB2, Informix, SQLite and ODBC-compatible databases. Apps built on Access need a Windows web server. The development application runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and you deploy the result to your own server, with Apache and IIS documented, or preview it with a built-in local server.

The Professional edition costs $599 for one developer and includes a year of email support and upgrades. Enterprise adds multiple database and REST API connections, data encryption and sign-in through Active Directory, Okta, Azure AD, OpenID or SAML. A Multi Developer edition bundles three Enterprise licences for teams working on one project. A 21-day trial and public live demos let you try it first.

What to keep in mind

Xlinesoft's own product facts page is plain that you still run the application. Hosting, database administration, backups, runtime updates and setting access rules correctly stay with you, and it notes that a feature alone doesn't make an app compliant with any regulation. It is a good fit for internal tools, admin interfaces and partner portals, and replacing an Access application is one of the use cases it highlights. For a single small project the upfront licence is the main cost to weigh.
