A closer look at TriviaBeam
TriviaBeam lets you build a Jeopardy-style board of categories and point values, open a room, and run the game on a TV or projector while players join from their phones with a QR code. The host sees answers privately and scores update automatically. Free for up to 5 teams.
A game show without the slide deck
The usual homemade Jeopardy night runs on a slide template and someone keeping score on paper. TriviaBeam replaces both. You build a board of categories, clues and point values in the browser, open a room, and put the board on a TV or projector. Players join from their phones by scanning a QR code or typing a six-character room code, no app or account needed, and each phone becomes a buzzer.
The split screens are the clever part. The host's laptop shows the answers and the controls for opening clues, managing buzzers and judging responses. The projector shows only the board, the current clue and the standings, so nothing gets spoiled. Scores update after each judged answer, and you can choose buzzer lockout, where the first to buzz answers, or have everyone answer at once.
Building a board
You can write a board from scratch, import questions from a CSV or start from a pack. There are six question types, including picture and audio clues. The homepage has a playable sample board about the solar system with categories like Our Rocky Neighbors and Giant Worlds. After a game, reports show the full standings.
Free and Pro
The free plan covers unlimited games you create yourself, up to five teams per room, five starter packs with 110 questions, all question types and the presenter mode. Pro costs $12 a month, or $8 a month billed yearly, and unlocks the full library of 22 ready-made packs with more than 485 questions, plus rooms of up to 300 teams.
Hosts sign in with Google, and the privacy policy says players join with just a team name and a browser credential to rejoin after a refresh. Team names and scores appear on the room display, and anyone with the room code may be able to see it, so it suggests nicknames rather than real names.
It suits teachers running review games, offices planning a team social and anyone hosting a quiz night who'd rather not rebuild a slide template every time.
