A closer look at The Talent App
The Talent App is an open-source applicant tracking system covering job posts, a kanban hiring pipeline, interviews, assessments, a careers page and an applicant portal. The code is MIT licensed and free to self-host on Supabase; SparxIT, the company behind it, sells scoped implementations.
What it does
The Talent App is a complete hiring system rather than a single feature. Recruiters create roles with structured requirements, then move candidates through a kanban pipeline from applied to hired, with a Do strip above the board listing next actions such as decisions to make, interviews to schedule and feedback to chase. A command palette searches jobs, candidates and interviews, and it parses phrases like a skill, years of experience and a city into filters.
Around that pipeline sit the other pieces a hiring team needs. There is a talent database with notes, tags and CSV import, digital application forms, and interview scheduling with calendar invites and scorecards. Job-linked assessments come with a branded exam portal. Candidates get a public careers page with structured job data and an applicant portal where they verify their email and follow their status. Reports cover pipeline conversion, time to hire and sources, and the app installs as a mobile web app for reviewing pipelines on a phone.
Self-hosting and security
The core is MIT licensed on GitHub. The self-host path on the homepage is four steps: clone the repo, create a free Supabase project and run its migrations, deploy to Vercel, Cloudflare Pages, Netlify or your own infrastructure, then invite your team. There is no software fee for that route. AI features, including assessment generation, run only if you add your own Gemini key; pipeline health and the next-action strip work without it.
For companies that face IT questionnaires, it supports staff SAML single sign-on with providers such as Okta and Microsoft Entra, TOTP multi-factor authentication and an append-only audit log of staff changes. A compliance settings page stores a privacy policy URL, grievance officer and sub-processor list. The site describes this as a configurable baseline for GDPR and India's DPDP reviews, not a certification.
Who is behind it
The Talent App comes from SparxIT, a software services company, which says its own open roles run on the same product. Much of the homepage is a pitch for that service: there are no self-serve plans, and pricing for a managed deployment is scoped per project after a discovery call. If you want someone else to host and customise it, that is the route. If you have a developer and a Supabase account, the GitHub repo is the place to start. Because you host it, candidate data stays in your own database, along with the responsibility for securing it.
