A closer look at Space Planner

Space Planner is a free browser room planner for rearranging furniture you already have. Enter the room size, doors, windows and your furniture's measurements, then compare two layouts in 2D or 3D, with plans saved in your browser and no account.

What it does

Space Planner starts from a furnished example room, a 10 by 10 ft bedroom with a bed, desk, wardrobe and chair, and asks you to make it yours. You set the inside dimensions, place doors and windows on the walls, and change each piece of furniture to the size you actually own, in centimetres or feet and inches. Then you move things around in a 2D plan or switch to a 3D view to look around the room.

The part that sets it apart is the comparison. Your current arrangement stays as layout A while you try another idea as layout B, and you can copy A to B to start from what you have. There's also an explore option that suggests arrangements with the same furniture sizes, guided by a priority you pick: move fewer pieces, leave room to use the desk and chair, or keep the centre of the room clearer.

Who it's for

It's built for small rooms and everyday decisions, like fitting a work desk into a bedroom without buying new furniture. Templates for 10 by 10 and 10 by 12 bedrooms show a few worked options, and a measuring guide explains what to measure first. It only handles rectangular rooms, so an L-shaped space is out of scope.

The site is careful about what its layouts mean. It calls them illustrative, says the examples aren't customer projects, and reminds you to check walking routes, how windows open and whether you can carry furniture through in your own room.

Saving and privacy

There's no account. The planner keeps one current project, including both layouts, in your browser's local storage, and suggests downloading the project file as a backup since browsers can clear storage. You can also export a PNG. The privacy page says room dimensions, furniture and comparison results aren't sent to a server, 3D previews run locally, and the site has no advertising scripts. It also notes it's independent of spaceplanner.co.
