Project Note

A closer look at InternetSpeedGeo

InternetSpeedGeo is a free browser speed test for download, upload and ping, with no account. Results stay in your browser's history, and guides, a provider directory and country averages help you read them in context.

What it does

Press Start and InternetSpeedGeo measures download, upload and ping in about 30 seconds, using Cloudflare's speed-test service. It shows your provider and an approximate location from your IP address, saves each result to a history in your browser, and offers a separate ping page if latency is what you care about. Beyond the test there's a world map, a provider directory by country with broadband and mobile tabs, statistics, reports and a wiki of provider pages. Country averages come from visitor submissions accepted in the last 90 days.

The explanations are the point

This site keeps reminding you what a result can't tell you. The guide on how speed tests work walks a measurement from the browser's request to the summary, explains why the test endpoint and your Wi-Fi can be the bottleneck, and says plainly that one test measures one device-to-server path at one moment and can't certify your plan speed or diagnose every home-network fault. It also covers practical conversions, such as dividing Mbps by eight to get megabytes per second. The worked scenarios are labelled as hypothetical teaching examples, not real measurements.

Privacy

There's no account. Your test history lives in browser storage, and you can export or clear it. Pressing Start means agreeing to Cloudflare's privacy policy, since Cloudflare runs the measurement. The site's own privacy page explains what Cloudflare receives during a test, how IP-based location works (a VPN or mobile gateway can change the provider and city shown), and that Google analytics and advertising are optional and separate from the requests a test needs.
