A closer look at AskMed
AskMed is an AI medical reference that answers clinical questions with citations from journals, guidelines and drug labels, for healthcare professionals and students on web, iOS, iPadOS and Android.
Answers with the sources attached
AskMed is a question box for clinical reference. You ask something the way you'd ask a colleague, and the answer comes back with citations to journal articles, guidelines and drug labels so you can open the original and check it. Follow-up questions carry the earlier question as context. Feature pages describe a research mode, filters for choosing which kinds of sources to draw on, coverage of guidelines from different countries, built-in medical calculators and answers you can share.
You can attach a document or image to a question. The privacy policy says attachments are read on your own device, by Apple's or Google's on-device tools in the apps or by pdf.js and tesseract.js in the browser, and only the extracted text is sent with the question. AskMed doesn't store that text. The site also says it carries no pharmaceutical advertising.
Plans
Pro is $24.99 a month or $129.99 a year. Max is $49.90 a month or $599.99 a year and adds Deep Dive, longer evidence reports drawing on 20 or more sources, and Exam Prep for licensing exams such as PLAB and USMLE. App subscriptions are billed through Apple or Google, and website purchases go through Whop.
Patient details and your history
The privacy policy, last updated October 21, 2026, names the maker as Quan Quach, trading as AskMed. Questions are sent to OpenRouter, which passes them to the AI model providers that write the answer, and the system may run web searches built from your question to find sources. Your name, email and account details aren't sent with the question.
AskMed keeps questions and answers on its servers to run the service and review answer quality and safety. Removing a conversation from your History list doesn't delete the server copy, so you have to contact AskMed to have it erased. There's a private mode for questions you don't want saved to History. Since questions can include health information, the policy asks clinicians to leave out anything that identifies a patient unless they're permitted to share it. Like any AI reference, the answers can be incomplete or wrong, and AskMed presents itself as an educational tool to check against the cited sources and professional judgment.
