A closer look at Get a Random Bible Verse

Get a Random Bible Verse draws one verse from a pool of 305, shows it in the King James, World English or American Standard translation, and adds a plain-English note, a short prayer and a link to the full chapter. You can match a verse to a mood, copy it, hear it read aloud, save favorites or make an image card for a phone story or a square post. It's free with no account.

What it does

Press Draw a random verse and the site picks one passage from a maintained pool of 305 verses. It shows the verse in the King James Version by default, and you can flip it to the World English Bible or the American Standard Version. Under the verse are three things worth opening. What this means gives a short plain-English explanation, A short prayer offers a few lines to go with it, and Read in context opens the surrounding chapter, so you can see what comes before and after.

If you'd rather not leave it to chance, you can match the verse to a mood first. There's also a dated verse of the day, plus separate tools for a random chapter, a random quote and a batch of verses at once.

Sharing and saving

Each verse can be copied, read aloud or saved to favorites. The image card option builds a picture in a portrait size for stories or a square size for posts, rendered in your browser. Favorites, recent history, your translation choice and the last chapter you read are kept in the browser's local storage, so they stay on that device and disappear if you clear the site's data.

Data and translations

The privacy policy, last checked against the site on September 30, 2026, says there are no reader accounts and that verse data and audio are served from the site itself. Analytics come from a self-hosted, cookieless Plausible installation, and the policy says Google Analytics and advertising code weren't present in production when it was checked. Fonts load from Google Fonts. The code supports NIV and ESV through licensed APIs, but the policy says both were turned off when last checked, so expect the three public-domain translations. The site doesn't name the person or company behind it.
