Project Note

A closer look at KDPTop

KDPTop helps self-published authors decide where a book can compete. It snapshots Amazon's public Best Sellers, New Releases and free charts, estimates daily sales from sales rank, and sums each category up as Go, Crowded, Watch or Skip based on price band, review barrier and how often new books break in. A Chrome extension adds the same data on Amazon and KDP pages. Free covers one full category a day; paid plans start at $19.99 a month.

What it does

Before you write or list a book, KDPTop tries to answer one question: can a new title get noticed in this category? It takes regular snapshots of Amazon.com's public Best Sellers, New Releases and Top 100 Free pages, estimates daily sales from each book's Best Sellers Rank, and boils a category down to a decision card marked Go, Crowded, Watch or Skip. The card weighs the typical price band, how many reviews the top books carry, and how often new books break in. Its sales estimates leave out Kindle Unlimited reads, so treat them as a rough guide to demand.

Around the cards sit lists of breakout books, category and keyword suggestions, author pages, an AI assistant, an API and an MCP connector. A Chrome extension shows the same estimates on Amazon book, author and search pages, and on KDP's title setup page it can suggest categories and fill keyword slots when you ask it to.

Pricing

The free plan opens one full decision card a day, shows the first 10 rows of lists and keeps three days of history. Creator is $19.99 a month and opens every category with alerts when a new book breaks into one you follow. Pro is $39 and Team is $99, with CSV exports of up to 20,000 and 100,000 rows. New customers get 50% off the first month, and yearly billing saves about 17%. An account is required.

Data and the extension

KDPTop says it isn't affiliated with Amazon. Its data comes from collecting Amazon's public pages, which can conflict with Amazon's terms, and part of it comes from users. The privacy policy, last updated October 30, 2026, says that once you connect the extension, a Data sharing switch is on by default and sends book details, Best Sellers rows and search results from the Amazon pages you visit to KDPTop. It says the extension doesn't collect your KDP sales reports or payment information and doesn't track you across sites, and you can turn sharing off from the extension popup.

On the account side, the policy lists your email, usage, Stripe payment status, IP address and analytics. Text you send for AI suggestions may be processed by DeepSeek, and site analytics are kept for up to 25 months. The site doesn't name the person or company behind KDPTop.
