Project Note

A closer look at SlangSwitch

A free two-way slang translator. Paste up to 1,000 characters and it explains what a slangy sentence means in plain English, or rewrites a plain sentence in natural internet slang.

What it does

SlangSwitch does one job in two directions. Paste a sentence like "I had to dip because the vibe was off" and it returns "I had to leave because the atmosphere was not right", along with a note that "dip" means leave and an "off" vibe means something felt wrong. Go the other way and "I really like this song" becomes "This song is an absolute banger". Text can be up to 1,000 characters, and you copy the result when it's done. There's no prompt to write and no chat to manage.

Limits

The site is upfront that context matters. It works best with complete sentences and common internet slang, and very new, regional or ambiguous expressions can still be misunderstood. Its own example is "The party was low-key", which could mean quiet, relaxed or deliberately understated, so adding a little context helps.

Privacy

It's free and needs no account. According to the privacy page, the text you submit is sent to OpenRouter to produce the translation, and neither your text nor the result is saved in an account, history, database or browser storage. Operational logs keep request status, timing and token counts, without the text or your IP address. Cloudflare Turnstile may ask you to confirm you're human when requests come quickly, and Google Analytics counts visits with ad personalization turned off, without seeing what you typed.
