A closer look at LensUp Scanner
Free on-device document tools for scanning to PDF, passport photos, ID card copies, compression to a target size and Markdown conversion.
The form wants a PDF under 200 KB
A lot of online forms ask for a scanned document, an ID copy or a photo in a specific size, and a phone camera doesn't produce any of those directly. LensUp is a collection of small browser tools for that job. The scanner takes a photo, lets you crop and straighten it with automatic corner suggestions you can adjust, evens out uneven lighting, and exports a printable A4 PDF. Compress to a target size aims for a limit like 200 KB and shows the final size, and there's a tool to increase a file's size when a form sets a minimum.
The ID tools cover two other common requests: a 35 by 45 mm passport photo on a white, blue or red background laid out on an A4 sheet, and an ID card copy with front and back at real size on one page. Newer tools convert DOCX, PDF and EPUB to Markdown, and read printed text from a photo.
Files stay on your device, mostly
The free tools process files inside the browser tab. LensUp backs that up with a verify-no-upload page describing a test it ran on 17 October 2026, recording the network requests of 14 tools on made-up files and finding no file content or file names sent. That matters for passports and ID cards.
Some features do use servers. The privacy policy says temporary page images and Markdown results from those features sit on Cloudflare R2 for up to 24 hours before deletion, and that an outside provider you choose processes them under its own retention terms. Pro's My files storage keeps documents on Cloudflare R2, encrypted at rest.
Free and Pro
The free tools have no watermark and work in 20 languages. Pro removes ads and analytics while you're signed in, raises batch and file-size limits, and adds 10 GB of private storage with share links that expire after 1 to 30 days. The Pro price isn't listed on the public pages. LensUp is maintained by Springtide Labs LLC, a Delaware company.
