Project Note

A closer look at Excerpt

A browser extension that multi-selects parts of AI chats and webpages and exports them as clean PDF or Markdown, with a local searchable library.

Keep the answer, drop the thread

Long AI conversations bury the two replies you actually needed. Exporting the whole chat keeps the noise, and printing the page to PDF keeps the sidebar. Excerpt takes the narrower route. On ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or any webpage, you click the specific blocks you want, whether that's a paragraph, a heading, a code block or an image. A preview lets you reorder them and add notes and tags before you export a PDF for an annotation app or a Markdown file for Obsidian or another notes tool.

A library that stays in the browser

Every clip is also saved to a local library in the browser's IndexedDB, with offline full-text search, tags and notes. There's no account and no cloud sync. The privacy policy says Excerpt doesn't collect browsing history or upload saved excerpts, and only contacts a payment and license provider to verify Pro keys.

The catch is the same one the site points out. Because the library lives in browser storage, clearing site data wipes it. On the free plan there's no bulk backup, so treat exported files as your copy of anything important.

Free or $29 once

The free version covers selective capture, PDF and Markdown export and local search, up to 100 clips and 5 tags. Pro costs $29 once, with no subscription, and adds unlimited clips plus backup import and export, so you can restore the library after a reset or move it to a new device. It's available from the Chrome Web Store and Microsoft Edge Add-ons.
